6 Internet Video Marketing Tips for Social Networking on YouTube by Dave Dube

March 6th, 2009

As you may already know YouTube continues to be one of the top media destinations on the web. YouTube was acquired by Google back in October ’06 and YouTube is the premier destination for video content online. In 2007, Google has made significant strides to improve the service for its strong and loyal user base. In this post I’ll share Internet video marketing tips that YouTubers and consumers alike can use to boost traffic and interest.

1st - Be Friendly
With features like friending, rating, favoriting and more, as with any social network, if used effectively these Internet video marketing tips can boost exposure while fitting into your social marketing strategy.

2nd – Rate It
Make it a habit to rate any video you watch to the end. Recently, before I did a video on the subject, I used YouTube to research how to create & upload HD videos. I plugged in a few keywords, and was amazed what I found! There were several videos on the very topic, walking me through how to do it step by step.
For the helpful video I found, I rated it 5 stars. Remember, while some may not be video experts, they may have expertise to share so, don’t be too harsh, rate not video quality alone, but the quality of the information shared.

3rd – Favorite It
I knew I would need that video in the future, or need to share it with someone else at some point. That is where favoriting comes in. It like bookmarking, if you like a video and know you’ll refer to it in the future, favorite it by clicking on the link below the video. This will show up in your recent activity feed, and let the producer know that you found it valuable.

4th - Add A Friend

As with many social networks friending (in one form or another) is a core feature. This is also available for YouTube users. At the moment it’s stuck in the “Connect With..” box on the left hand side of a YouTube users channel page with. Once a friend request is accepted, you can now message them inside of YouTube. From one of my friend requests: “Becoming friends makes it easier to keep track of what your friends are favoriting, uploading, or rating and makes it easier to share public or private videos.”
The easier, and I would say, the best to do this is with TubeBlasterPro.

5th – Comment It

There is much more to YouTube than just watching and rating. When you watch a video and rate it, take the time to leave a comment as well. And again, be kind. If the video happens to be awesome and you gave it 5 stars, tell them why, and if you rated it less, DON’T tell them why. Leave a comment like, “Good job, keep ‘em coming!” to encourage them to do better ☺

6th – Subscibe!
After watching, rating, commenting, favoring it, and adding a friend, you’re not done until you SUBSCRIBE to the users channel. And when you get a friend request, or sub BACK, always go to that users channel and leave a profile comment to thank them for adding you as a friend, or subscribing to your channel. This will get your profile picture and channel name all over YouTube.
These Internet video marketing tips for YouTube are designed to get you moving in the right direction, and really only scrape the surface when it comes to using YouTube effectively as a part of your social marketing strategy.

To Your Success!
